PUMA Rolled Stag Bowie Knife Review

Received this knife yesterday. The box says German components, assembled in China. First, I was pleased to see that my handle was not hump-shaped as shown in the picture, but fairly symmetrical, nice-looking stag. I have large hands and this handle is of near minimum length for me. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because the joints between the guard, handle, and hilt were a little rough, as though the bone shrank slightly after sanding. Also, there were fine gaps between these components (about a paper's thickness in spots) that could collect blood, moisture, and bacteria. I fixed this by running a bead of epoxy along the joints and then polishing smooth. All handle and guard components were tight out of the box though and the handle feels very sturdy.

The blade appears to be genuine Puma steel and you can see the tiny dent where they did their hardness test on the right side of the blade near the guard. It was truly razor sharp out of the box, I did not need to hone as usual with most of my new blades.

The sheath is as pictured, heavy duty nylon. It was a little short for my liking as the tip of the blade rested on the bottom. Also, I did not think it complemented this old-west looking knife, so I made my own leather sheath for it. Keeping the original sheath in case I ever sell the knife, or to use as backup. Don't think I would part with this beauty anytime soon though!

Overall, lacks the finishing quality but retains the blade quality of a $130 knife, but you won't be paying the list price anyway. An excellent value!
