Deuter Race Backpack: Black/White Review

I've been commuting for a year with a hybrid bike that have installed a Topeak rack and pannier system, and recently bought a road bike. I wanted a lightweight backpack that would have a rain cover and just as importantly have a system on your back that would allow your back to cool down while cycling.

This Deuter backpack is excellent: ridiculously lightweight, mesh shoulder straps, and a really nice back support system that supposedly allows for air to flow on your back (though can't really attest yet to how well this feature works). This backpack comes with a bright yellow rain cover, as well as a 3.0-liter hydration system (contrary to the bullet-point description on Amazon that states that it doesn't). There is a main compartment that stores all your stuff, a mesh pocket inside the main compartment for your money, ID, etc, and once you remove the hydration system I have extra carrying space for my iPad during my commute. On the top there is a small zipper to keep my iPhone, and on the front-end of the backpack (over the rain cover zipper compartment) a small space to keep your tools, spare tubes, CO2, etc. There are also hip straps as well as sternum clips that keep the backpack really well formed to your body, but not glued on.

Seriously folks, for $59 this blows Camelbak, Topeak, Timbuk2, and Osprey out of competition, and from what a couple friends told me Deuter makes very good quality cycling backpacks (I've always had a long-standing respect for German products). I was a little reluctant buying it when it wasn't reviewed or because it seemed to have conflicting information from the title to the description, but it's a great backpack. I will come back to it in a few months to provide an update.
